Admissions

Akaal Primary School is a state-funded Free School open to all primary-aged children irrespective of faith, ethnic origin or ability. The school will have an admission number of 60 pupils in each year group.

Starting Primary School in the Reception Year

You apply for your child to start school in the Reception Year (Year R) through the coordinated admissions scheme run by local authority in which you live.

Parents living in the Derby City local authority area can apply online through Derby City Council’s website:

You can also apply by telephone, or ask for a paper application form, by telephoning 01332 956988. Parents resident in other local authority areas must apply through the local authority in which they live.

The deadline for applications to be returned is 15th January in the year of admission in September. Offers of places are made on 16th April (or the next working day if this is a weekend or bank holiday) in the same year. If we are not able to offer you a place, you can appeal against that decision.

You can find the full admission arrangements for the school, including the criteria used to decide who is admitted when the academy is oversubscribed, via the links below.
