Governance

Akaal Primary School is a Sikh faith Free School that opened in September 2015. The school was established and is overseen by the Akaal Academy Trust Derby Ltd. The Trust was created to provide education of the highest quality in a Sikh faith setting for the children of Derby.

The school has a governing body that is responsible for:

  • Setting the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school

  • Holding the school to account for the educational performance of the school

  • Overseeing the school’s finances and making sure money is well spent

  • Ensuring the voices of stakeholders are heard

The Trust is a limited company and a charitable trust, and the governing body is also the Board of Directors of the company and the Board of Trustees of the charitable trust. The governing body is accountable to Members of the Trust as well as to the Department for Education, and is bound by Companies House and Charity Commission regulations.
